Professional Certificate in Self, People & Business Leadership (SPBL)

It isn't built around generic leadership theory. The curriculum reflects direct input from HR leaders across startups, family-run businesses, and established organisations, it's delivered by IIM Bangalore faculty and practitioners, and it closes with a capstone project on a real life industry challenge — not a hypothetical case study.

The programme is structured around three themes — leading yourself, leading your people, and leading the business. Across these, you’ll build capabilities in resilience, emotional intelligence, personal effectiveness, decision-making, coaching and mentoring, stakeholder and performance management, strategic thinking, business finance, and communicating for impact. You’ll also develop the ability to make data-driven decisions, explore AI for professionals through live sessions with IIMB faculty, and understand changing paradigms in the new age of work, alongside perspectives on macroeconomics and the broader business environment.

Designed for managers, leaders, and high-potential professionals taking on broader leadership responsibilities. The programme is suited to professionals who have moved beyond individual execution and are ready to strengthen their ability to lead people, influence stakeholders, and drive results at scale. Organisations can enrol identified leadership talent, and individuals can also apply directly.

The programme is designed for mid-level and senior-level managers and leaders who are taking on broader managerial and leadership responsibilities.

Applications are reviewed and shortlisted candidates go through a personal interview before being offered a seat. Organisations can also nominate their employees directly for the programme; nominated candidates go through the same shortlisting and interview process.

The programme runs for six months, with a thoughtfully paced blend of self-paced learning, live faculty sessions, and other programme engagements. The structure is designed to work alongside professional commitments, allowing participants to apply their learning progressively without taking time away from their full-time roles.

Assessment takes place at two levels: course-level learning assessments completed throughout the programme, and an end-of-theme assessment following the completion of each of the three programme themes. Alongside the capstone project, these assessments evaluate both participants’ ongoing learning and their ability to apply concepts and frameworks to real-world leadership challenges.

While the programme is not a formal degree, it is recognised as professional certification from IIMBx. That said, it's designed to be a credible signal of readiness for larger leadership responsibility.

Participants attend weekly doubt-clearing sessions conducted by programme facilitators. Additionally, they can post questions on the learning platform's discussion forum, and seek academic and technical support over email.

The programme is designed to strengthen capabilities across self-leadership, people management, communication, stakeholder management, business thinking, and data-driven decision-making. These capabilities can support participants as they take on broader responsibilities, lead larger teams, navigate complex business environments, and prepare for the next stage of their managerial and leadership careers.
